What is World No Tobacco Day?

As the name implies, World No Tobacco Day is an annual event designed to raise awareness of the dangers of tobacco use and encourage people to quit smoking. Tobacco kills nearly 5,200 people from smoking in Ireland each year. This makes tobacco one of the leading causes of preventable deaths in the country.

Every year, the World Health Organization selects a theme for the day, and this year’s theme is “Protect the environment.” The goal of the theme is to highlight the link between tobacco use and environmental pollution.
